Sustainability & Behind The Scenes

Every piece of jewelry tells a story, and at Kollectivet, ours is one of intentionality and care. We believe in consuming thoughtfully, prioritising quality over quantity in everything we create. Our commitment begins with using high quality materials and honoring the craftsmanship of our talented community of artisans. To us, sustainability is not a buzzword or tick boxing exercise, but a guiding principle. Actioning sustainability means consistently reevaluating our products, materials, operations, and supply chain to ensure we’re making meaningful progress. Sustainability is a journey, and we’re dedicated to building a mindful brand every step of the way, creating timeless pieces designed to last a lifetime.

1. Season-less Jewelry

Our jewelry is NOT mass-produced. We don't follow seasonal fashion cycles. We stay away from mass productions and believe in the reduction of overconsumption. Our designer-led collections hold only one stock of each design. We don’t hold unnecessary stocks - unless an order is placed to remake it again.

2. Quality over Quantity

Our jewelry is handmade and carefully crafted by our talented community of Sri Lankan designers and artisanal goldsmiths. Each piece of jewelry is unique in its own way (as natural gemstones are never alike!). Our pre-order pieces are made just for you and our bespoke service caters to bring your dream designs to life. Our goal is to ensure you own your very own unique piece of jewelry.

3. Finest Materials

We verify and have criteria for the materials used in all our jewelry pieces. We only use precious and hypoallergenic metals such as sterling silver, gold and platinum in all our jewelry.

Our gold plated jewelry has a 925 sterling silver base. Sterling silver is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The minimum requirement of 92.5% silver is the sterling silver standard we adhere too. We do not use brass or nickel in our jewelry. Furthermore, all our silver pieces are rhodium-plated giving that white gold finish. Rhodium is harder than silver, gold, and many other metals, and this plating offers a protective barrier for your treasured pieces, enhancing its durability and resistance to scratches. Our pieces are made to last a lifetime and more!

All our natural and lab grown gemstones are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity provided by GIA certified gemologists from a third party reputed gemological laboratory independent from the transaction. The certificate validates the authenticity of the gemstone and any treatments it may have undergone. Transparency is a key value we stand by.

4. Responsible Sourcing

We at Kollectivet predominantly source our natural gemstones from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has become a role model in eco-friendly gemstone mining due to small-scale mining in a way that conserves resources. Sri Lankan miners use age-old traditional practices that have a minimal impact on the environment. Uncontrolled mining is non-existent, strict state rules ensure there is no child labor or exploitation of workers. The national regulations are probably the strictest in the world for mining. 5. Supporting Communities

Each piece created is a unique work of art, designed and made by our talented community of artisans. We strive in supporting our community whilst enabling you to buy better. Our artisans are design-led and independently owned small jewelry businesses based in Sri Lanka. They have poured their creativity and passion to create designs that are truly unique and have skilfully crafted them into perfection. When you place an order on Kollectivet, you are shopping directly from our artisans who bring these designs to life.

6. Carbon-neutral Shipping

Kollectivet has partnered with DHL to offer our customers DHL’s Go Green carbon neutral delivery as an eco-friendly fulfilment solution. DHL will offset the emissions incurred in making your delivery by purchasing the equivalent in carbon credits. Carbon offsetting involves “balancing out” these emissions by funding carbon reduction projects outside the sector of impact such as reforestation and conservation projects, investment in renewable energy infrastructure, and providing clean water to disadvantaged communities. You can learn more about how DHL offsets emissions from the transportation of your shipments here.
